Add video to
Google Slides
Video can make a slide more concrete, but it can also slow down a deck. This guide covers the basic Google Slides flow and how to plan video when you generate the deck first in GeneratePPT.
Video sources
- Add a YouTube video when it is public and stable
- Use Google Drive video when you control the file
- Check sharing permissions before presenting
- Keep a fallback screenshot or summary slide in case playback fails
Add a YouTube or Drive video
In Google Slides, open the slide where the video should appear. Choose Insert, then Video. From there you can search YouTube, paste a YouTube URL, or select a video from Google Drive.
Adjust playback settings
After inserting the video, select it and check the formatting or playback options. Decide whether the video should play on click or automatically, and set start and end times if you only need one section.
Before presenting
- Test playback on the account and device you will use.
- Confirm that Drive videos are shared with the audience or presenter account.
- Avoid autoplay if the slide needs setup or explanation first.
- Add a short caption so the slide still makes sense if the video fails.
Plan video before generating
If you are generating a deck in GeneratePPT, mention the video in your prompt or outline. Ask for a dedicated video slide with a setup sentence, the clip purpose, and a discussion question.
Good video slide
One headline, one reason to watch, one follow-up question.
Weak video slide
A video dropped onto a slide without context or a next action.
Move from GeneratePPT to Slides
GeneratePPT exports PPTX. If the final deck will be in Google Slides, export the deck, upload it to Google Drive, open it in Slides, then add the video links there.
Video embeds are usually easiest to finalize inside the tool you will present from.
